Welcome to the Southern Nevada Regional Open Space & Trails Summit webpage!

 Post-Summit Thank You

Wow! The Outside Las Vegas Foundation Board of Trustees and Staff wish to thank our Southern Nevada community for the trememdous contributions and support that made the Southern Nevada Regional Open Space & Trails Summit possible. We believe that open space and trails are the windows to a higher quality of life for Southern Nevada and help engender a distinct "sense of place." We are proud of what unfolded at the Summit and where our leadership and advocates are headed in the future. We are particularly pleased to confirm that the 14 co-hosting governmental agencies concluded the Summit by signing the "Statement of Intent", which commits them to continue to build on this first collaborative dialogue to define, implement, manage and maintain an integrated and interconnected trail and open space system for Southern Nevada. We move forward from the Summit with renewed enthusiasm and commitment to ensure that we continue to work together to achieve a world-class Southern Nevada Regional Open Space and Trails System.

 Who is invited to attend?

  • Elected officials, government decision-makers and practitioners
  • Recreation use and conservation organizations
  • Health and safety organizations
  • Development community
  • Local and federal agencies

Why should I attend the Summit?

The Summit is the first Action Step that will begin addressing broadly supported recommendations outlined in the Southern Nevada Regional Planning Coalition’s recently approved Regional Open Space Plan (www.snrpc.org). A very exciting initiative is gaining support and momentum in Southern Nevada – the development of a regional system of interconnected open spaces and trails. This evolving system will improve the quality of life and community character by providing:

  • Links to key public parks and recreational facilities
  • Connectivity between neighborhoods and across jurisdictions and key barriers such as major highways
  • Easy access from neighborhoods, residents and places of employment
  • Attractive corridors with distinguishing topographic, historic, ecological or cultural features

What are the objectives of the Summit?

  • Raise the political profile and support for open space and trails
  • Increase public understanding and support for open space and trails
  • Showcase present successes in Southern Nevada
  • Learn about successful programs around the country
  • Dialogue on challenges and existing disconnects
  • Initiate a multi-jurisdictional partnership agreement that will explore the feasibility of implementing a regional open space and trails system

 Dialoguing…

National experts and local leaders and practitioners will spend the day dialoguing on the opportunities and challenges we potentially face in preserving our open spaces and developing an interconnected trails system in Southern Nevada...particularly as we continue to grow, both spatially and in character as a community.

 Showcasing…

All-day Poster Session will feature federal, state and local Regional Open Space & Trails planning, construction and maintenance efforts, highlighting connectivity and conservation approaches, alternative transportation strategies, economic incentives and health, education and safety benefits to our communities.

 Creating Partnerships…

The Summit Day will be celebrated by a late afternoon signing of a multi-agency statement of intent that commits us to continuing the dialogue on improving our quality of life and community character by providing an interconnected system of trails and open spaces in Southern Nevada. A reception will follow the Resolution signing in the Desert Learning Center Rotunda and Courtyard Plaza.
