BLM
managed public lands, nearly 68 percent of Nevada, are open
for the public to explore and enjoy. Your public lands administered
by the BLM in Nevada range from sweeping panoramas of high
elevation mountain ranges and dramatic vistas to stark and
expansive white playas, geologic wonders, and wide open
spaces.
During
2002, Bureau of Land Management (BLM) volunteers provided
the Las Vegas Field Office with almost 500 hours of volunteer
service documenting and monitoring rock art sites. These
volunteers recorded petroglyph and pictograph panels in
the Gold Butte area south of Mesquite. They completed extensive
paperwork for each site, and photographed and inked scale
drawings of the rock art elements. The volunteers also monitor
the condition of many archaeological sites throughout Clark
County reporting vandalism or site deterioration.
There
are many opportunities to enjoy Southern Nevada’s
great outdoors while volunteering on BLM land throughout
the Las Vegas Valley or at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation
Area.
